Smallpdf is genuinely well made, but the free tier meters how many documents you can process each day and sends every file through their cloud. Drops runs the same everyday PDF jobs locally in your browser — then turns the finished document into a shareable link with no account required.

How It Works
Three steps, zero uploads, no subscription.
Drop a file into the Advanced PDF Editor. It is parsed locally with PDF.js, so nothing is transmitted while you work.
Click any line to edit it, whiteout confidential text, add a signature, or reorganise pages — the same jobs you would open Smallpdf for.
Export a clean vector PDF, or publish it to a private https link with a QR code so a client can read it on their phone.
Smallpdf built one of the most popular PDF suites on the web. The friction people run into is not quality — it is the business model. The free tier meters how many documents you can process per day, larger files push you toward a subscription, and every document you open is uploaded to their servers for processing before it comes back down.
That is a normal software-as-a-service trade-off, but it is a poor fit for contracts, payslips, medical records and anything else you would rather not hand to a stranger.
If you need OCR of scanned documents, deep form-field authoring, or a desktop-grade batch pipeline, a dedicated suite may fit better. Drops is strongest for the everyday loop: fix the text, sign it, and send it.

'Polish this invoice PDF, sign it, and publish a shareable link on Drops.' Your agent builds the page, uploads it, and hands you a live link. No dashboard needed.
Try asking your agent
“Polish this invoice PDF, sign it, and publish a shareable link on Drops.”
Paste this into your agent’s MCP settings (Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and most tools), replacing the key with yours:
